Creating defensible value in a changing European market
The insect sector is evolving rapidly, and the conversation now extends far beyond protein alone. More companies are exploring functional benefits, health impacts and sustainability value. But what can you realistically communicate about these advantages—and where are the legal boundaries?
To support companies in navigating this landscape, IPPEC is developing a new series of short, practical online workshops:
Insects and legislation: beyond protein
A set of “turbo sessions” connecting science, regulation and market strategy.
Why this series matters
European legislation on novel foods, feed materials and sustainability claims is changing quickly. For insect-based ingredients, the opportunities extend well beyond offering an alternative protein source. There is increasing potential in circularity, environmental value and functional properties.
At the same time, communicating these benefits requires care.
- How do you make a sustainability claim without risking greenwashing?
- What level of evidence is required to communicate a functional benefit?
- And how do you build a dossier that is both realistic and legally defensible?
These questions are central to the new workshop series.
First session: green and sustainability claims
The first online workshop focuses on sustainability communication. We will examine how companies can discuss circularity and environmental impact while staying within EU regulatory boundaries, and how to develop evidence-based claims that build trust.
Date: to be announced
Who is it for?
The turbo sessions are designed for anyone active in the insect sector: innovators, producers, researchers, and professionals in regulatory affairs or business development. The sessions offer clear, practical guidance that can be applied directly in communication, R&D or compliance work.
“Our goal is to connect science, regulation and practical experience in a way that enables the sector to move forward with clarity and confidence.”
