Sustainable protein production with insects

Collaboration between leading partners and experts drives innovation in insect farming and the development of sustainable protein solutions, supporting a scalable and circular food system.

About IPPEC

What we do

The Insect Protein Production Expertise Center (IPPEC) is emerging as an international hub for knowledge, innovation, and collaboration in the insect sector, bringing together research, education, and industry to accelerate sustainable protein production.

Based in the Peel region of the Netherlands, the Insect Protein Production Expertise Center (IPPEC) unites companies, researchers, education, and government to accelerate the global protein transition.

By combining research, practice, and education, IPPEC develops knowledge, tests new technologies, and explores innovative applications for insect farming. Our goal is to create scalable, sustainable solutions for insect farming and insect protein production that can be applied worldwide.

Our background

5 partners die samen willen bijdragen aan een duurzame voedselsystemen

The Insect Protein Production Expertise Center (IPPEC) was established in 2024 as a joint initiative of five core partners: Insect Engineers, New Generation Nutrition (NGN), IQ-Climate, Nijsen company, and Feed Design Lab. Supported by EU and national funding, IPPEC is building a living lab, an insect learning community, and innovation programs to accelerate the shift towards sustainable food systems. Rather than looking back, IPPEC is focused on the future: developing knowledge, establishing an international network for insect farming and insect protein production, and laying the groundwork for a resilient, circular insect value chain over the next three years.

Our Approach

At IPPEC, we combine research, practice, and knowledge sharing. Our approach is built around three interconnected pathways:

01

Collaboration with experts and entrepreneurs

Partners from technology, feed, climate systems, and education join forces to make insect farming scalable and economically viable.

02

Applied testing and development

In living labs we research and test methods and technologies, always focusing on practical applicability and global scalability.

03

Fostering knowledge sharing and innovation

Through the Insect Learning Community, we ensure that knowledge does not remain unused but is shared and applied by businesses, students, and policymakers.
