Successful Webinar on Black Soldier Fly (BSF)

More than 75 people signed up for IPPEC’s free Spanish-language webinar on the Black Soldier Fly (BSF). In total, 41 participants joined live – a strong mix of professionals, students, and educators across different time zones.

Inspiring speakers

The session featured a diverse panel:

  • Dr. Juan Fernando García Trejo (UAQ)
  • Ana Karen González López (Smithers-Oasis de México)
  • Dr. Natalia Naranjo Guevara (NGN)
  • Raffaela Schreurs (NGN)

Together, they shared expertise and practical insights on the role of BSF in sustainable protein production.

Webinar content

Topics included the BSF life cycle, biosecurity, and quality management. The speakers also addressed practical questions: how do you scale from pilot validation to full production? By combining knowledge from different disciplines, participants gained a comprehensive overview of both the challenges and the opportunities in insect farming.

Dynamic Q&A

An interactive Q&A sparked lively discussion. Questions touched on the impact of feedstock variability, design considerations for facilities, and opportunities to collaborate through pilots, internships, and upcoming cohorts. The exchange showed the strong need to share knowledge and experiences, especially between regions that face very different challenges.

Learning across borders

Not all participants were able to join live due to time-zone differences between Europe and Latin America. To include them, IPPEC will schedule additional sessions and make presentations and materials available on demand. This ensures that the knowledge shared is not limited to a single event, but accessible to a broader audience.

Why we do this

At IPPEC, we are step by step building an Insect Learning Community. The webinar is a concrete example of this: a place where people exchange tips, ask questions, and learn together. In doing so, we are creating an international network that helps accelerate the protein transition.
